The Federation was formed as an informal working group of representatives from various Hong Kong schools alumni associations in March 1996. During these gatherings, all the representatives felt the need for an association consisting of, and serving solely, former Hong Kong students residing in Southern California.
During 1996, a “morning tea” event with Mrs. Anson Chan, Chief Secretary of Hong Kong, was hosted in June. A “moon-viewing” Mid-Autumn Festival dinner with Mr. Donald Tsang, Financial Secretary of Hong Kong, was organized in September. We also had our first annual Christmas Charity Ball in December. The Federation was officially incorporated in 1997.
